    A Rejuvenating Getaway at Allita

12 Oct A Rejuvenating Getaway at Allita

As the monsoons of Kolkata become even more unbearable, an unexpected weekend getaway at the historic hill station of Kurseong seemed God send. This tiny hamlet is often ignored for its more popular neighbor Darjeeling, located 32 kms away. However, with its expansive tea gardens, the serpentine scenic slopes, the forest infested hills with their blooming white orchids, it can be an extremely refreshing change.

My flight was about 10 minutes early into Bagdogra Airport and I welcomed my early respite into my holiday. I had booked a couple of nights at the Allita Hotels and Resort, which has been recently renovated and upgraded to luxury standards. The pick-up had been arranged by the hotel and the driver promptly met me at the Airport exit.

As we drove through Pankhabari Road, I wish I was on a helicopter instead of a car. The lush green tea gardens on both sides of the road, is probably best viewed from an aerial route. The drive itself was sort of rejuvenating. As soon as the car took the uphill route, the air become free of pollution. With the fading rays of the sun, I could see some of the signs strategically located on prominent corners amongst the trees. One such sign said, ‘Panther Point’ and on asking the driver, he confirmed that panthers are spotted around this area from time to time. Not wanting to encounter a panther, I was relieved to spot my residence for the weekend – Allita Hotels and Resorts, located on the beautiful foothills of Kurseong, at the upper GiddhaPahar Ashram Busty, about 3 kms from Kurseong’s toy train station.

This luxurious, boutique resort, as I was told only has 35 keys. The exquisiteness reverberates from its name that embraces everything around it, into grandeur. With the wilderness surrounding this scenic resort, it has a soothing impression that impacts your life with a rejuvenating sensation.

I was greeted by the Resort Manager who personally showed me to my room. The room was warm, welcoming and spacious with anintermingling of local and modern inspirations to harmonize the artistic needs of those seeking a luxury experience. The best part was the room’s fantastic panoramic view.

Not wanting waste any time, I quickly had a cup of steaming hot Darjeeling tea with a plate full of delicious momos and embarked to take a stroll around the property. The property in this romantic weather with its spectacular sights enveloped a charm that few could resist.

As the evening gave way to dinner, I was surprised to see a gastronomical affair at their multi-cuisine restaurant. I helped myself to scrumptious local delicacies and was brave enough to even try a dessert. The next morning went in exploring Sherpa’s peak and I spent my afternoon cozying up in the library with my favourite read.

As my getaway was nearing its end, I busied myself with some aesthetic photography. I was in no mood to return to the scorching Kolkata heat, but all good things come to an end. As I bid adieu to Allita, I was relaxed and refreshed and already planning my return trip to this lap of luxury soon.
